Having difficulty talking to your patients about behavioral health issues?

If so, you are not alone! Engaging patients in their healthcare, particularly for behavioral health issues, is key to improving health conditions – but it can be hard to do. This module will discuss techniques that encourage patients to participate in their self-care and patient participation in your practice’s quality improvement or patient advisory teams. Additional topics include addressing behavioral health stigma, which can be a barrier to treatment.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe methods for behavioral health engagement to improve patient outcomes.
  • Discuss patient and family advisory teams or councils and ways to implement them into your practice or clinic.
  • Discuss the stigma associated with patients receiving behavioral health treatment and methods for overcoming this issue.
