Facilitator Communication Skills: The Secret Ingredient for Successful Group Visits

The most important ingredient for successful group visits is the ability of the facilitators to create a positive, safe, and collaborative environment. In fact, patients report they most value developing a trusting relationship with their provider and healthcare team. This module will focus on the key facilitation skills needed for implementing the ENACT group visits.

 Learning Objectives:

  • Describe key facilitator communication skills, such as rapport building, reflective listening, and summarizing and transitions.
  • Discuss methods for engaging different types of group participants.
  • Apply patient centered discussion techniques, including utilizing key phrases that promote group discussion and contribute to discussion of topics related to advance care planning.

Who should complete this module?

Primary care team members who are directly involved in this study: 

  • Physicians or advanced practice providers and social workers or nurse care managers who will be assisting with facilitation of the group visits.

Approximate time: 60 minutes
