Why is weight management important for primary care clinics?

On any given day, over 70% of patients who present to a primary care clinic have obesity or are overweight. This module will discuss the importance of addressing weight management in primary care, evidence-based guidelines, and describe the Helping Our Patients Engage in Weight Management (HOPE) study. The HOPE study’s goal is to assist primary care practices with tools and resources to help their patients lose weight, maintain weight loss, and establish healthy lifestyles. Learning Objectives

  • Describe the HOPE project and the implications for primary care practices and their patients.
  • Describe the evidence-based guidelines for obesity treatment.
  • Discuss patient-centered techniques for discussing weight management with patients.
