Agricultural Behavioral Health: Brief Interventions within a Medical Setting
Module Materials
Having difficulty talking to an agriculture-based patient about behavioral health concerns?
You are not alone. This module discusses the ‘agrarian imperative’ (the notion of protecting the land at all costs) as a common motivator driving the risk-taking behaviors among agricultural-based patients. Three brief nonpharmacological interventions are also introduced to promote patient engagement when discussing behavioral health topics. NOTE: This module is not intended to address behavioral health concerns with Severe and Persistent Mental Illnesses (SPMI).
Learning Objectives
After completing this module, the learner should be able to:
- Discuss the impact of the agrarian imperative as a cultural consideration when building therapeutic rapport with agricultural-based patients.
- Demonstrate the use of three evidence-based non-pharmacological brief interventions when engaging with farming patients.
Who Should Complete this Module?
This information in this module is valuable for physicians, advanced practitioners, social workers, psychologists, therapists, and others.
